About Us

Registered dietitians are qualified health professionals that assess, diagnose, and treat diet and nutritional problems.

Dietitians are regulated by law and governed by an ethical code to ensure they work to the highest standard.

The title ‘Dietitian’ is protected and the minimum requirement to practice as a Dietitian is a university degree in Dietetics.

Dietitians must be registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (www.hcpc-uk.org) and be a member of their professional body, the British Dietetic Association (www.bda.uk.com) in order to practice.

Are Dietitians the best people to advise you on your child’s nutrition?

Dietitians appreciate the importance of understanding the science and research whilst working to ensure the advice is tailor made to individual requirements.

Paediatric dietitians undertake further study to specialise in this area. They work with babies, children, teenagers, and their families to optimise their nutrition. This can often be at a time when they require specialist input because of allergies, fussy eating, or nutritional deficiencies.

What to expect from a consultation?

An initial virtual consultation will last up to 45 minutes and will include:

  • Talking through nutritional concerns and what you expect to gain from the consultation.

  • A detailed growth history (please have your child’s red book with you for the appointment) so we can advise you on how your child is growing.

  • A diet and feeding history so we can provide you with information about whether your child is meeting their nutritional needs.

  • Evidence based and up to date nutritional advice that is tailored specifically to your child and your family's eating habits. .
  • A collaborative discussion around long and short term nutritional goals.

  • A follow-up plan for dietary target implemented.

We will require a recent weight and height.

If your child has not had their height/length and weight taken in the last month, this would need to be taken prior to your appointment. You may be able to do this at a healthy visitor baby weighing clinic or at your GP. Alternatively please see the link below for instructions on how to measure at home.
